PhD position in Dark Sector searches with the NA64 fixed-target experiment

The Experimental Neutrino Physics Group (https://neutrinos.ific.uv.es/) invites applications for a PhD position in experimental particle physics at the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC, https://webific.ific.uv.es/web/). The successful candidate will join the group’s activities within the NA64 experiment at CERN (https://na64.web.cern.ch), focusing on searches for Light Dark Matter, and other physics beyond the Standard Model.

The PhD project will be centred on the exploitation of the NA64 data collected so far as well as the optimisation and design of the experiment for the next phase. The students will be mainly involved in the electron and muon programs participating in the following activities:

  • Analysis of current NA64 data and Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Phenomenology studies to search for new signatures.
  • Development of reconstruction and analysis software.
  • Development of new trigger algorithms for real time analysis and detector optimisation.
  • Participation in CERN test beams and data-taking campaigns.

The student will work within an international collaboration. The position offers opportunities for traveling to CERN and participation in international conferences, workshops, and schools.

The positions are fully funded for 4 years. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The position is expected to start in Fall 2026, although the exact starting date will depend on administrative procedures.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in high-energy or particle physics. Previous experience in experimental particle physics, Monte Carlo simulation, detector instrumentation, or data analysis is desirable. Experience with programming in Python, C++, as well as familiarity with ROOT, GEANT4 or machine learning techniques will be valued positively.

Applicants are requested to send their application, including a motivation letter, CV, academic transcripts and the contact information of at least two referees willing to write a reference letter to Dr. Laura Molina Bueno (laura.molina@ific.uv.es) by September 6th. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse research environment and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds.

Contact:  Dr. Laura Molina Bueno (laura.molina@ific.uv.es)

Letters of Reference should be sent to:  laura.molina@ific.uv.es
